To be quick at Spa, you need to be fast through sector two. It’s the twisty bit in the middle of the lap, where the most time can be won and lost. I had too much understeer through there today, which is why I was slow in qualifying.

From 19th on the grid, I expect to have a difficult race. I need it to rain to stand a chance of making a lot of progress through the field and our weather forecast for tomorrow is dry, which isn’t great. But the thing about Spa is that you never know: it has a micro climate of its own and the meteorologists can never say never to rain.

Away from the racetrack, it’s been a busy day of press and PR commitments. One question I was asked by a journalist was where I’d like to see a new F1 track built. I think a street race in Japan would be great – are you reading this Bernie?
